Algal Lake

Algal Lake ( English for Algensee is) a small, approximately circular meltwater on Cape Evans on the west coast of the Antarctic Ross Island . It lies midway between Skua Lake and Island Lake .

The lake got its name from the biologists David T. Mason, Charles R. Goldman and Brian J. B. Wood, Jr. of the US Antarctic Research Program (USARP) , who examined it in two campaigns from 1961 to 1962 and from 1962 to 1963. They named the lake after the striking accumulations of blue-green algae remains on the leeward side of the lake.
