Ali Baran

Ali Baran (* 1955 in the village of Bargeni-Axucan, Hozat district , Tunceli ) is a Kurdish singer. Both Kurmanji and Zazaisch were spoken in his family . His father Mahmud Baran was a well-known singer in his homeland. He drowned in a reservoir. His mother also sang, so Ali Baran grew up listening to music. He learned to play Davul at the age of six and the Saz / Tembur at twelve . His musical role models were Arif Cizrewi , H. Cizrewi , Kawis Axa and Meryem Xan .

When he started school at the age of seven, he learned the Turkish language. He went to middle school in Elazığ . He was later expelled from secondary school for political reasons and returned to Hozat in 1973. He played at events and also sang revolutionary music. After a concert in Diyarbakir in 1977, he was imprisoned for about two months. He later made up his secondary degree and went to Germany in 1978 .

In Germany, he studied chemistry and music, but did not graduate, but turned entirely to music. After the 1980 military coup in Turkey , he applied for asylum . In 1993 he received German citizenship .
