Ali Barraud

Ali Barraud (also Ali Barraud N'Goni , born January 31, 1918 , † October 11, 2015 in Bobo-Dioulasso , Burkina Faso ) was a doctor and politician in Burkina Faso, the former Upper Volta.

Barraud was initially a medical officer in Bobo-Dioulasso , before joining the Rassemblement Démocratique Africain (RDA) liberation movement in the 1950s .

He began his political career as a city councilor in Bobo-Dioulasso. For a while he was also deputy mayor there before moving into the third territorial assembly of Upper Volta in 1957 for the PDU (Parti Démocratique Unifié) . (Election period 1957/1959).

From January to March 1959 Barraud was a member and vice-president of the Federal Assembly of the Mali Federation , but left it when Upper Volta left. In April 1959 he was appointed to the National Assembly as a member of the UDV (Union Démocratique Voltaïque) , where he was elected Vice-President of the Commission for Social and Cultural Affairs.

In the period that followed he held various high positions: in 1970 he was first deputy secretary of the united UDV-RDA party. Since 1971 Barraud was Minister for Public Health. He resigned from this office in 1974. In 1971 he was also elected vice-chairman of the WHO .
