Ali Murtopo
Ali Murtopo (Indonesian spelling: Moertopo ; born September 23, 1924 in Blora , Central Java , † May 15, 1984 in Jakarta ) was an Indonesian general and an important political figure during the first half of Suharto's reign .
Ali's political influence increased when Suharto came to power in 1967. As a result, Ali became deputy chief of the Indonesian military intelligence agency Bakin . His influence is mainly due to his membership in Suharto's inner circle of advisers, the so-called Aspri , and his function as the leader of the Opsus , a special unit of the secret service that only Suharto was above.
Among other things, Murtopo was involved in the " Operation Komodo " ( Indonesian Operasi Komodo after the Komodo dragon ), with whose propaganda the two major parties in the colony of Portuguese Timor were driven to civil war in August 1975 , which ultimately led to the invasion and annexation of Indonesia Pretext served.
