Alibeyuşağı is a village with about 500 inhabitants in south-east Anatolia in the Turkish province of Kahramanmaraş , near the city of Adiyaman and Gaziantep (30 minutes). The city of Kahramanmaraş is approximately 20 km from Alibeyusagi.

population

Only Alevi Kurds live in the place, some of whom speak Turkish as well as Kurdish. The villagers live almost exclusively from the produce of agriculture (watermelons, figs, pomegranates and grapes). Alibeyusagi is the only village in Pazarcik that belongs to the Hayadraan Asiret (tribe). The other villages in Pazarcik belong to the Sine Milli, Kilis or the Atma-Asiret.

In the diaspora , the inhabitants of the village can be found mainly in three countries: Switzerland , Germany and France .

There are also isolated families in Canada, USA, Austria, England and the Netherlands. Two communities have formed in Germany. In the vicinity of Moers (including Cologne and Hagen) and in the vicinity of Mannheim (including Ludwigshafen). Due to its small geography, the municipality in Switzerland sees itself as its own community; in France there is a small community in Paris. In Turkey there is a large community in Mersin alongside smaller ones in Adana and Antep . Approx. 1500 members / family members of this village live in Germany. Around 400 members live in Switzerland and around 200 in France. The population of this village speaks Kurmanci (Kurdish dialect). The village is politically Kurdish and voted in elections for the Kurdish democratic party HDP .

Infrastructure

The village has four small shops for basic groceries and a primary school. There is also a factory in the village. Water pipes have only been around in every household for a few years. Telephone connections were only introduced around 1990. There has also been an internet café since 2008.

Maras pogrom

The Maras pogrom also had victims from Alibeyusagi.

This only included families who lived in Maras. The village itself was not attacked. A few days after the pogrom, the residents of Alibeyusagi had their village protected by young men with weapons from their own ranks, as they feared an attack.

After the pogrom, the village of Alibeyuşaği broke all relations - be it economic, business or political - with the city of Kahramanmaraş . They dedicated themselves to Narli, Pazarcık and Antep , who benefited from the Maras boycott of the Alevis.

Slowly the Alevis try to get closer to the Sunnis and do business in the city.

Joint meetings

The village members usually meet together at weddings or funerals. Often the members gather in the respective places of residence (Mannheim area, Moers area and the area around Basel) at jointly organized barbecues.
