Alice Gerken , formerly Alice Gerken-Klaas , (born April 25, 1964 in Jever ) is a German politician . She has been the mayor of Ganderkesee since November 1, 2006 .

Life

education and study

After her training as an administrative clerk at the city of Jever, Gerken began studying general higher-level administrative services, which she completed in 1992 with a degree in administrative management . Since January 18, 1993 she has been an official of the Ganderkesee municipal administration. Since 1999 she has been head of the “Central Services, Schools” department. From 1993 to 1996 she completed a part-time course at the Administration and Business Academy in Leer to obtain an administration diploma.

Local election 2006

Gerken prevailed in the local elections on September 10, 2006 with 53.25% of the votes against their challenger Rainer Lange ( SPD ) and thus became the first woman mayor of the community. Gerken ran for election as a single applicant. It was openly supported by the CDU and the FDP .

Local election 2014

As part of her renewed candidacy in 2014, she was officially supported by the CDU, FDP, SPD and free voters. On May 25, 2014, she again prevailed against her challenger Jens Gause ( Alliance 90 / The Greens ) with 77.02% of the votes . The turnout was 52.99%.

Private

Gerken was married to Hans-Hermann Klaas. In August 2016, her married name "Gerken-Klaas" was changed to "Gerken".

In 2006, Gerken competed against nine other mayors on the radio station Bremen Vier as part of the mayor's karaoke and sang the ABBA hit Dancing Queen there . She speaks fluent Low German and promotes the regional language and the like. a. with the annual "Plattdüütschen Week", which is now known nationwide. In addition, Alice Gerken is an avowed supporter of the Ganderkese carnival and for many years u. a. active during the parade.
