Alive in the Deep is a 1941 American short film directed by Stacy Woodard and Horace Woodard .

The short film shows the life of animals and plants under water. Among other things, a fight between two sea lions can be seen, an eel fights an octopus , and a puffer fish defends itself against an opponent by inflating itself.

Alive in the Deep was filmed by Stacy and Horace Woodard partly in the sea, but partly in tanks. For the film, scenes were also used that both had shot for Educational Pictures and RKO Pictures in the 1930s . Some scenes from Alive in the Deep were again used in 1956 for the feature film Die Tierwelt ruft . Alive in the Deep had its premiere on May 7, 1941.
Awards
Alive in the Deep was nominated for an Oscar in the category “ Best Short Film (Two Film Roles) ” in 1942 , but it couldn't stand up to Main Street on the March! push through. Horace Woodard was nominated posthumously because he died unexpectedly in January 1942.
