Alla Jerwandowna "Erwandi" Ter-Sarkisjanz ( Armenian Ալլա Երվանդի Տեր-Սարգսյանց , Russian Алла Ервандовна Тер-Саркисянц ; born April 25, 1937 in Moscow , Soviet Union , today Russia ; † August 16, 2019 ) was a Russian historian and ethnographer Specialized in Armenia , Doctor of History, member of the Faculty for the Caucasus at the NN Miklucho-Maklai Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences . Her research fields include Armenian ethnogenesis and ethnic history, traditional and modern family, customs and rituals of the life cycle, modern ethno-cultural processes and the Armenian diaspora in the world and in Russia.

life and work

Ter-Sarkisjanz graduated from Lomonosov University in Moscow with a degree in history in 1959 . In 1968 she obtained her doctorate at the NN Miklucho-Maklai Institute for Ethnology and Anthropology with the thesis "The modern Armenian family (based on materials from rural areas of the Armenian SSR)". She received her doctorate in history in 1998 for her research on “The Armenians. History and ethno-cultural traditions ”. From 1978 to 1989 she was secretary for scientific affairs at the NN Miklucho-Maklai Institute for Ethnology and Anthropology . Ter-Sarkisjanz was the deputy chairman of the Expert Council on History, Archeology and Ethnography of the Russian Fund for Human Sciences.
