Everything under heaven belongs to everyone

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Everything under heaven belongs to everyone is the German title of an exhibition of contemporary Chinese art in public space. It took place from October 2, 2012 to February 18, 2013 in Kassel . The works of Chinese artists were shown in 20 inner-city locations. The sculptures and installations are a contribution to CHINAH , the Chinese year of culture in Germany 2012.

According to the organizers, it was the "largest overseas exhibition of Chinese art in public space to date and at the same time the largest art exhibition that will take place as part of the Chinese Year of Culture in Germany in 2012."

The organizers saw "a kaleidoscope of contemporary Chinese art" that makes a clear reference to the documenta city of Kassel and its history and wrote:

“The works of art by the Chinese artists are not only created by reflecting on the city and the city's history, they also enter into a dialogue with their viewer and the documenta works of art that are present in the city. Some works of art combine in content and form the tradition and modernity of the eastern and western worlds, others indirectly address the wounds of the war in Kassel, stimulate thought about ecological sustainability or deal with their cultural-historical context [...]. "

The expression “(Everything) under heaven” is ambiguous in everyday Chinese language and refers to a concept that has evolved over time in various subject areas, cf. Tianxia .
