Hyphoderma crustulinum is a mushroom species from the family of the fold relatives (Meruliaceae). It forms carpet-like, membranous fruiting bodies of whitish color and grows on goat clover ( Cytisus spp.). The species is common in the pre-alpine region of France and Italy .

features

Macroscopic features

Hyphoderma crustulinum has resupinate, membranous-waxy fruiting bodies typical of the genus Hyphoderma , which initially grow in circles in groups and then flow together. They are orange to brown in color and have blunt teeth about 2 mm in length. The fruit body is white and downy to fibrous.

Microscopic features

As with all Hyphoderma species, the hyphae structure of Hyphoderma crustulinum is monomitic, i.e. it only has generative hyphae . The 3–5  µm wide subhymenial hyphae are thin-walled, the 3–6 µm wide subicular hyphae are rather thick-walled. Both are hyaline and can show incrustations . The septa always have buckles . There are no cystids ; some hyphae develop a broad or slightly head-shaped process at their apex. The very long basidia of the species are club-shaped, have four sterigmata and measure 45–60 × 6.5–8 µm. They have a buckle at the base . Their spores are narrow-cylindrical to sausage-shaped, hyaline and thin-walled. They measure 12–16 × 4.5–5.5 µm and are not cyanophilic.

distribution

The known distribution of the species includes the southern pre-alpine region of France and Italy, it is considered extremely rare.

ecology

Hyphoderma crustulinum grows on the stems of goat clover ( Ctisus spp.).
