General Rabbinical Conference Germany

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The General Rabbinical Conference Germany (ARK) is a coalition of liberal , Masorti- or open-traditional rabbis and rabbis. Currently (June 2018) it has 29 members. Together with the larger Orthodox Rabbinical Conference (ORD), it was a member of the umbrella organization of the German Rabbinical Conference , which no longer existed in March 2015 at the latest and is no longer occupied. In addition to the Jewish communities under the umbrella of the Central Council of Jews in Germany , the ARK also unites the rabbis of the Union of Progressive Jews in Germany . This in turn recognizes the competence of the ARC Bet Din in questions of Jewish religious law .

The ARK has set itself the goal of promoting Jewish life and Jewish education, especially in the member communities of the Central Council of Jews in Germany and in its other institutions.

It was founded on February 3, 2005 (according to the Jewish calendar = 24th Shevat 5765) in Braunschweig as a reaction to the establishment of the Orthodox Rabbinical Conference and due to structural changes in Judaism in Germany since the 1990s. These consist above all in the strengthening and new founding of corresponding communities of liberal, reform and conservative Judaism and in the need for full membership of women.

One focus of the work is the support of rabbi training at the Abraham Geiger College . The ARK is also promoting the publication of a new liberal siddur . She is also involved in interreligious dialogue .

The ARC Bet Din deals mainly with Jewish status issues (Jewish origin, adoption, conversion).

The chairman of the ARK is Andreas Nachama , who took over the office from Henry G. Brandt in 2019 .
