Generalization (disease)
In internal medicine, generalization is the term used to describe the spread of a disease or its effects on the whole body - one then speaks of a general disease - or a patient's organ system . In the other case, the disease is called local if the disease is restricted to one organ or part of the body . The same applies in pharmacology to the effect of drugs in therapeutic application.
Typical examples are:
- Generalized infection ( generalized infection ): spread of a pathogen throughout the body
- Generalized seizure , the seizure activity throughout the brain in epileptology
- Generalized rash , spreading a rash on the whole skin as an organ system
And for the opposite:
- Local infection , a pathogen that does not multiply beyond the infection site
- Local antibiotic , an antibiotic which is not systemic in its action
- Local anesthesia , the local anesthetic
