Duala General Hospital

The General Hospital of Duala or Nachtigal Hospital of Duala is a building in the Cameroonian port city of Duala that was erected during the German colonial era and still exists today .

The building was designed by the German architect Henri Drees and built and completed from 1896 on the initiative of the doctor Albert Plehn . It was initially named after the German Africa explorer in Duala, Gustav Nachtigal .

The French writer Louis-Ferdinand Céline also stayed in the General Hospital of Duala in 1916, which was still German-speaking , and processed his short stay in the Dualaner Hospital in an excerpt from his book Reise zum Ende der Nacht .

Today the General Hospital houses the Police Department and the Delegation for Culture of the Littoral Region . The police department was formerly located in the Duala police station .
