Garrett AiResearch
Garrett Engine Boosting Systems is an American manufacturer of turbochargers for the automotive industry . The company, based in Torrance , California , has been a subsidiary of Honeywell International since 2006 and continues to use the brand . Garrett had design offices and manufacturing facilities in the United States and Canada.
Cliff Garrett founded the company in 1936, which became known as Garrett AiResearch . Garrett AiResearch designed and built a wide variety of components, particularly for the aerospace industry.
The focus was on control technology , hydraulics , avionics , air bearings , turbochargers , aircraft engines , and air conditioning .
After merging with Signal Oil in 1968, Garrett became part of Signal Companies . In the mid-1980s, Signal merged with Allied Corporation and became AlliedSignal with the automotive and aerospace technology businesses. The Garrett Aviation division was sold to General Electric in 1997 and is now part of Landmark Aviation . AlliedSignal merged with Honeywell in 1999, where the turbocharger business continues to this day.
