Allieu Kondewa

Allieu Kondewa (* probably in Bo district ) is a former Sierra Leonean military commander and was the military leader of the paramilitary units Kamajors of the Civil Defense Forces (CDF) in the civil war in Sierra Leone in the 1990s .

Kondewa had to answer for human rights violations and war crimes before the Special Court for Sierra Leone . His trial, along with those of Samuel Hinga Norman and Moinina Fofana, began on June 3, 2004. On August 2, 2007, Kondewa and Fofana were convicted of war crimes and murder and other crimes. On October 9, 2007, Kondewa received an eight-year prison sentence. In 2008, on appeal, the sentence was increased to 20 years and served in Mpanga Prison in Rwanda . He returned to Bo , Sierra Leone in July 2018 for an open sentence .
