Samuel Hinga Norman

Samuel "Sam" Hinga Norman (born January 1, 1940 in Ngolala , † February 22, 2007 in Dakar , Senegal ) was a Sierra Leonean tribal leader of the Mende and leader of the Kamajors and Civil Defense Forces during the civil war in Sierra Leone .

With his troops of more than 20,000 men, he supported the civil government around President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah . They proceeded with extreme brutality, recruited child soldiers and financed themselves with blood diamonds . On 7 March 2003 Norman was the Special Court for Sierra Leone for crimes against humanity and war crimes accused. He died before the sentence was pronounced.
