Alligator Records 20th Anniversary Tour is a live album from Chicago- based blues label Alligator Records . It was included on the tour to celebrate the company's 20th anniversary.

General

Alligator Records is one of the most important blues labels in the USA, with albums made by the company winning two Grammys and 70 Blues Awards. A collection of recordings by the most important artists (Alligator Records 20th Anniversary Collection) was released for the company's anniversary and a tour was organized, the recordings were released in early 1993. The two CDs bring live recordings by Koko Taylor and Her Blues Machine, Lonnie Brooks Blues Band, Elvin Bishop, Katie Webster and Lil 'Ed & The Imperials, who were signed to the label in the early 1990s. The recordings at the Vic Theater, Chicago were originally recorded for the Chicago radio station WXRT-FM and remixed for CD release. Katie Webster and Koko Taylor, who hardly knew each other before, became friends on the tour. During the tour, recordings were made for the documentary " Pride and Joy: The Story of Alligator Records " (direction and production: Robert Mugge)

Criticism

  • Stephen Thomas Erlewine - All Music Guide: Featuring an array of their most popular acts .... the record doesn't deliver any surprises, yet these performances are frequently more exciting than the studio versions. (Although the most popular artists of the label are called up here, this compilation does not hold any real surprises, even if the recordings often sound more inspired than the respective studio versions.)
  • New Music Report: One of the finest live blues recordings you'll ever hear (One of the best live blues albums you'll ever hear.)
