Allison Hayes (born March 6, 1930 in Charleston as Mary Jane Hayes , † February 27, 1977 in San Diego ) was an American film actress and model .

Career

The beauty queen Allison Hayes appeared in 1949 in elections to the Miss America and was discovered in the early 1950s for the film, in 1950, she was Ambassador of the Washington Cherry Blossom Festival. In 1954 she was signed by Universal Pictures . She made her debut in 1954 in the comedy Francis Joins the WACS . An accident occurred during the filming of Attila, the Hun King , as a result of which her contract was terminated by Universal in 1955. In the same year she signed a contract with Columbia Pictures and was cast in the crime film Chicago Syndicate . This was followed by roles in comedies, crime and horror films as well as westerns , but mostly films in the B category . In 1958 she got the lead role in the science fiction film Attack of the 20 Meter Woman , her most famous role. The famous movie poster in particular is one of the classics of Hollywood of the 1950s.

In addition to her acting, she pursued a career as a pin-up model. Before and during her film career, she received titles such as Miss District of Columbia , Miss Dixie , Queen of the Atlantic , Forget-Me-Not Girl, and Miss 7-11 . In 1958 she posed half-naked for gentlemen's magazine Gent and in underwear for fashion company Frederick's of Hollywood .

Her film career stalled in the early 1960s and Hayes was now primarily seen in television programs. After filming the Elvis Presley entertainment film Cowboy Melody (1965), her health deteriorated rapidly. In 1967 she stood for the last time in front of the camera for the television program Gomer Pyle, USMC .

Due to persistent nausea, pain and physical weakness, the young actress was no longer able to take on film roles; the symptoms themselves puzzled the doctors for a long time. After numerous hospital stays and painful therapies, leukemia was not diagnosed until 1976 . Allison Hayes died in 1977 after a long illness, a week before her 47th birthday, at the University of California Medical Center in San Diego.
