Allports Island is designated as a protected landscape area. The coast mainly consists of jagged quartz rocks that were quarried earlier. There are some larger underwater caves on the island.

Description and usage

As part of a program to protect native wildlife, an eradication program against fox kusus and mice (1989) was carried out on the island . The rare saddleback Philesturnus carunculatus and the long-legged flycatcher (Petroica australis) have settled on the bush-covered island . Dolphins live in the sea around the island , and orcas have also been spotted.

The island is a recreational area for the residents of the surrounding area, the sea in front of the steep cliffs serves as a diving area . There are safe berths for boats and you can go hiking in the bush. In summer, the island is therefore heavily frequented by boats and divers.
