Almondell Aqueduct

The Almondell Aqueduct is a canal bridge in the Scottish council area of West Lothian . In 1971 the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest category A. It is also classified as a Scheduled Monument . The canal bridge is not to be confused with the Almond Aqueduct at Broxburn . The Almondell Bridge , which is also listed, spans the river 500 m downstream .

The canal bridge is about two kilometers east of the city of Livingston and was built between 1821 and 1822 to a design by the engineer Hugh Baird and led one of the main water supply routes of the Union Canal over the Almond . He fed himself from the Cobbinshaw Reservoir . It is a 25 m long steel bridge with an overhead arch, a width of 1.8 m and an arrow height of 3.55 m. Next to the 91 cm deep water channel, which is lined with 1.6 cm thick cast iron plates, there is a pedestrian path.
