The Almond ( Scottish Gaelic : Abhainn Amain ) is a river in Lothian , Scotland . It rises not far from Shotts in North Lanarkshire to flow into the Firth of Forth after 45 km .
course
The Almond has its source at Shotts in Lanarkshire, but after it has passed Harthill , most of its course takes it through West Lothian . It flows through the villages of Blackburn and Livingston to pass under the Almond Aqueduct near Ratho . At Cramond (a suburb of Edinburgh ) it finally flows into the Firth of Forth, an estuary of the North Sea .
