Shotts is a town in the Scottish Council Area of North Lanarkshire . It is located in the Central Belt about 27 km southeast of Glasgow and 38 km southwest of Edinburgh . With the Cummins Engine Factory there is a monument of the highest Scottish monument category A in Shotts.
history
The nucleus of today's city of Shotts was the village of Kirk of Shotts , which is four kilometers north-northwest. Shotts developed over the course of the 19th century as a location for coal mining and the steel industry. Both coal and iron ore were mined in Shotts. The Shotts Iron Company established itself as one of the main employers. In the 20th century, the city's population decreased. In 1951, 11,125 people were counted there. By 2001 the number of inhabitants had gradually decreased to 8,235. In the 2011 census survey, 8,801 people lived in shots.

Shotts is not directly connected to the trunk road network. However, the A71 , which connects Edinburgh with Irvine , runs a few kilometers south. The M8 runs north past Shotts. Shotts has its own train station along the Shotts Line , which regularly connects Edinburgh with Glasgow. Edinburgh and Glasgow airports are two international airports within 25 miles.
