Aloyse "Alo" Bové (born October 19, 1906 in Hollerich , today Luxembourg ; † June 17, 1977 ibid.) Was a Luxembourg flower and landscape painter.

Life

Alo Bové was born on October 19, 1906 in Luxemburg-Hollerich as the son of a flower gardener and grower. After completing primary school, he attended the crafts school from 1921 to 1925 and was a student of professors Eugène Kurth and Pierre Blanc, to whom he owed his basic training in drawing. After graduating from the crafts school, Bové went to Munich and studied for a few years at the "Academy for Applied Arts and Interior Design". He then founded a decoration studio in Luxembourg. He received numerous commissions as an interior designer and decorator in the country and at national and international exhibitions in Luxembourg, Paris, Brussels and Berlin.

He directed u. a. in 1937 the artistic furnishing of the Luxembourg pavilion at the tourist exhibition in Paris and was involved in decorating the Luxembourg stand at the international craft exhibition in Berlin in 1938. In 1939 he was responsible for the interior design of the Luxembourg pavilion at the international water exhibition in Liège.

In his free time he devoted himself intensively to painting, which in the later years of his life became more and more of his whole life. In 1926 he became a member of the “Cercle Artistique”. In 1935 he was awarded the " Prix Grand-Duc Adolphe " in Luxembourg for his artistic work and in 1967 the Grand Prix de Peinture in Sarreguemines (France). On the occasion of honors or farewells to well-known public figures in Luxembourg, pictures by the painter were often presented to the jubilarians.

Landscapes and especially flowers were his motifs, which he brought onto the canvas in a naturalistic figurative style. However, Bové is not a stubborn imitator of nature. He did not paint his flowers directly from nature, but from sketches and studies, especially the petals. Bové was not just a recognized flower painter. He was also a master in the field of landscape painting. His Öslinger landscapes are well-known with their gold-dipped gorse heads, which reproduce a diverse color palette through light and shadow compositions.

In 1927 he exhibited his first flower watercolors, later he painted mainly with oil paints. In the course of his work he also dealt with restoration work in secular buildings and churches, such as in Koerich, Holler, Wahl, Burglinster, Kopstal, Rollingergrund, Beidweiler etc. The painting of the church in Dreiborn in 1948 should be mentioned in particular. The Luxembourg state archive was for years also one of his most important clients.

Bové organized regular exhibitions of his pictures, beginning in the early 1950s, first exhibition in 1952, annually since 1956, mainly in the Bradtké Gallery in Luxembourg, or in joint exhibitions with other artists in various Luxembourg cities. Some of his paintings are still in family hands today.
