Ferdinand Aloisins Kewitsch (mostly Alois Kewitsch ; Polish also Alojzy Kewitsch , born October 13, 1851 in Liebschau, West Prussia , † after 1913 ) was a piano and harmonium maker in Warsaw and Saint Petersburg .

Life

Aloisins was the son of the organist and teacher Ferdinand Theodor Kewitsch and his wife Anna Catharina, née Greifenhagen, in West Prussia, the name suggests that the father's family (Kiewicz) had Polish origins. Brothers included Theodor , who later became a composer and conductor, and Ferdinand , who also built a harmonium and piano in Berlin.

Alois opened a piano and harmonium factory in Warsaw (then in the Russian Empire) in 1889, in which many pianinos were also built. In 1897 he made an offer to repair the organ in the Lutheran Church in Warsaw, but it was probably not carried out.

In 1902, Kevich opened a branch in Saint Petersburg, which in 1911 employed about 11 people and which at that time had a turnover of 20,000 rubles. His brother Leonard was in charge and the building was located at 28 Voznesenskaya ulitsa.

The companies existed until at least 1913. A special feature was a pianino with a cello console. Some of the company's pianos and upright pianos have survived.
