Alois M. Holzer

Alois Martin Holzer (* March 1976 in Neunkirchen ) is an Austrian editor , meteorologist, author, conference and research manager based in Krumbach in the Bucklige Welt.

Life

From 1997 to 2006, Holzer was the Austrian representative of the “Competence Center for Tornados in Germany, Austria and Switzerland” ( TorDACH ). In 2006, Holzer was the head of the founding assembly of the European Severe Storms Laboratory ( ESSL ), of which he is a founding member, and since 2007 he has been treasurer of the non-profit organization based in Weßling near Munich. Holzer has been an editor in the ORF weather department since 1997. In 2003 he initiated the "Ö3 weather warnings" at the Austrian radio station Ö3which have since been intended to warn the population of dangerous weather events in Austria. As a project manager for the Ö3 weather stations, he contributes to the expansion of the Austrian meteorological station network.

He is the author or co-author of 2 books and of numerous scientific articles for meteorological journals and the designer of radio and internet articles for the ORF. In 2009 Holzer was co-organizer of the 5th European Severe Weather Conference ECSS in Landshut, Bavaria. In 2011 Holzer sits on the local organizing committee of the ECSS conference in Palma de Mallorca. Since 2011 he has been a member and since 2014 chairman of the selection committee of the European Meteorological Society (EMS) for its European Media Awards.
