Life

Alois Scharl was the only child of Josef Scharl and Magdalena Scharl, geb. Gruber born. During his childhood he was occupied with art due to his father's painting influence, he practiced various painting techniques. After nine years as a prisoner of war in Russia, he returned to Munich in the early 1950s, where he studied at the Blocher Art Academy to deepen his knowledge. During his studies he learned all the necessary techniques that were important in his later career as an art teacher.

In Munich he met his wife Ursula in the mid-1950s, with whom he finally moved to Wendelstein near Nuremberg to work as a teacher for art education in Nuremberg. This is where the first of his typical landscapes were created. During the time in Wendelstein, their daughter Susanne was born in 1959. In 1961 the family moved to Hohenstadt, where Scharl found further inspiration from the landscape, new friends and traveling. The family began traveling abroad, where the diversity of the landscapes resulted in further different pictures. Scharl always traveled with a sketch pad to record his impressions. In 1967 Scharl bought a historic mill near the Franconian Alb, which was restored. From 1992 to 1994 Scharl suffered three strokes and could no longer paint. He died in August 1994.
