The Kaiser-Friedrich-Turm was a lookout tower on the Pimpinellenberg in the Brandenburg Oderberg . It was built in 1896 and destroyed in World War II.

history

In the Angermünder Kreiskalender from 1912 the author Karl Wilke writes about the tower: “On the 120 m high Pimpinellenberg near Oderberger See the approx. 25 m high wooden Kaiser Friedrich tower rises. It was built in 1896 as a symbol of the landscape, the gymnastics community and tourists jokingly called it the 'long Heinrich' because the late teacher was em. Heinrich Lange from Oderberg was, so to speak, the father of the idea of building a lookout tower here. [...] "

The Pimpinellenberg was a popular destination, and its expansion should further promote day tourism. The Oderberg Beautification Association raised money for this purpose in 1893. As early as 1894, among other things, the long staircase with 350 steps and many resting points running from the Deutscher Kaiser restaurant to the top of the Pimpinellenberg, the so-called 'Himmelsleiter von Oderberg'. A temple-like wooden pavilion was initially planned to complete the staircase on the mountain top, but as interest and funds grew, a tower was to be built in memory of Emperor Friedrich III, who died in 1888 . be built because the Pimpinellenberge or the Wurzelberge had a reference to the Kyffhauser legend about Emperor Friedrich I. "Barbarossa" . A committee was formed for this tower building, to which the mayor Sieg, the city councilor Forckel, various councilors and city councilors as well as other respected citizens of the city belonged, including the teacher Heinrich Lange, who was chairman of the beautification association and acted as secretary of the committee. In 1894 the tower committee made the first submissions to the Prussian district government regarding the release of a building site for the tower on forest-fiscal grounds.

In November 1895, the Schneidemühlen owner C. Müller in Bralitz near Oderberg heard about these efforts and the money collection and offered his support. The Forest Service approved the construction site, put new paths and access roads to the tower on, the presumption of fieldstone was released. The tower should be for 7000  as a ruin way held Wartburg are built of boulder rock. This modest building was not enough for Müller; a towering observation tower in massive wooden architecture was to be built for 17,000 ℳ. However, construction aid from public funds was not granted and the income from collections in Oderberg declined over time. But it was thanks to Müller and Lange that the construction, which began in May 1896, progressed rapidly. Müller carried out the construction work himself, and the tower was opened on October 18, 1896, the birthday of the late Emperor Friedrich III.

As expected, the Kaiser-Friedrich-Turm increased tourism, which was looked after and promoted by the Oderberger Verkehrsverein from 1898 to 1908.

A plaque of honor inside the tower named the construction costs and the names of the donors who contributed more than 10 ℳ to the construction fund, as well as the proceeds of the donation collections.
