Aloisio the New (* 15th century; † 1531 ?) Was an Italian architect who worked in Moscow at the beginning of the 16th century . His real name is not exactly known; according to some historians, it is Aloisio Lamberti da Montagnana . In Russia , Aloisio was called Aloisio the New ( Russian Алевиз (Фрязин) Новый ) at the time of his work ; the addition of "the new one" to his name should distinguish him from his compatriot Aloisio da Milano , also known as Alewis , who worked in Moscow a few years earlier.

Aloisio came from either Milan or Venice . 1500 he was from Moscow Grand Duke Ivan III. invited to Russia through its ambassador in Venice: He was supposed to help complete the new Moscow Kremlin and, among other things, to replace the building worker Pietro Antonio Solari , who had also died a few years earlier and who had also been brought to Moscow from Italy. However, Aloisio did not come to Moscow until 1504: In the meantime he built the Khan Palace in Bakhchysarai in the Crimean Tatar state under Khan Meñli I. Giray, which is still partially preserved today . After arriving in Moscow, Aloisio first built the new Archangel Michael Cathedral in the Kremlin and completed it in 1508, after the death of Ivan III. He made use of both old Russian sacred building traditions and the Renaissance style of his home country.

Another well-known Kremlin structure of Aloisios was the artificial moat on the eastern Kremlin wall , along the Red Square . This moat originally served as a complement to the Kremlin fortifications and existed until the beginning of the 19th century. It was named Alewis-Graben ( Алевизов ров ) after the name of the architect common in Russia .

In the later years, Aloisio the New created several church buildings in Moscow, some of which have been preserved or rebuilt to this day. He may have died in the explosion of a Moscow gunpowder factory in 1531.
