The Alpine slug ( Arion obesoductus = Arion alpinus auct. Non Pollonera) is a slug from the family of slugs (Arionidae), which is subordinate to the land snails (Stylommatophora). It is a very rare species that occurs in the Alps and the adjacent low mountain ranges.

features

The alpine slug is about 2 to 3 cm long when stretched out. The animal is yellow-brown to olive-brown. On the sides there are two brown stripes up to the coat shield. The mantle shield is relatively short (approx. 1/4 of the body length). Two more brown stripes run on the coat shield, the right stripe runs in an arch above the breathing hole. The sole is intense yellow.

Way of life and occurrence

The animals occur in near-natural forests in the Alps and the adjacent low mountain ranges in leaves and in mosses between the trees. They eat mushrooms and fallen leaves.

Systematics

The Alpine slug ( Arion obesoductus ) is assigned to the subgenus Arion (Kobeltia) . However, the subdivision of the genus Arion is not undisputed. According to Manganelli et al. (2010) Arion alpinus is a younger synonym of Arion intermedius . For the taxon Arion alpinus auct. non Pollonera the name Arion obesoductus Reischütz, 1973 can be used.
