Rozavlea ( Hungarian Rozália ) is a municipality in the Maramureș County in Romania .
location
Rozavlea is located about 32 km southeast of the town of Sighetu Marmației in the valley of the Iza River .
structure
Until 2002, the neighboring village of Șieu belonged to Rozavlea, but has since formed its own municipality. In 2006 the Sâlța settlement received the status of an official district.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1373 as villa Iohannis Woyvode . For several centuries it was part of the Maramures County and thus the Kingdom of Hungary . After the First World War he came to Romania.
population
Since the beginning of the official census in 1850, the community has been mostly inhabited by Romanians . Up until the Second World War , the Jews were a significant minority (more than 25 percent in 1920). The inhabitants of Rozavlea are now almost exclusively Romanians; In 2002, one German , one Ukrainian and eleven Roma were recorded in the municipality (which at that time also included the town of Șieu and had 6,124 inhabitants) .
traffic
Rozavlea is on the county road ( drum județean ) DJ 186, which leads from Vadu Izei to Săcel and thus connects the cities of Sighetu Marmației and Borșa . There are regular bus connections to these cities. The nearest train station is about 7 km northeast of the town in Leordina on the Valea Vişeului – Borşa railway line .
Attractions
The most important tourist attraction was the wooden church "Sfânții Arhangheli Mihail și Gavril" ( Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel ) built between 1717 and 1720 ; it burned down on August 7, 2016 during the service.
Rozavlea is also interesting because of its scenic location.
