The “Blue Spring” of the Iza

The Iza ( Romanian Râul Iza ) is an 83 km long left tributary of the Tisza in the Maramureş district in northern Romania .

The Iza has a catchment area of 1303 km². It rises at an altitude of 1380  m in the Rodna Mountains and then flows in a north-westerly direction. Places in the valley of the Iza are Săliştea de Sus , Dragomireşti , Bârsana , Vadu Izei and Sighetu Marmației . In the village of Vadu Izei, the Mara flows into the Iza. Shortly afterwards the Iza flows into the Tisza at Sighetu Marmației at an altitude of 268  m ; this forms the border river to Ukraine .
