Vadu Izei (until 1968 Vad , Hungarian Farkasrév ) is a municipality in the Maramureș district in Romania . In addition to the actual place Vadu Izei, it also includes the village of Valea Stejarului (Hungarian Disznópataka ).

Vadu Izei is located about five kilometers southeast of the town of Sighetu Marmației at the confluence of the Mara River into the Iza .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1383. For several centuries it was part of the Maramures County and thus the Kingdom of Hungary . After the First World War he came to Romania.
population
Since the beginning of the official census in 1850, the community has been mostly inhabited by Romanians . Until the Second World War , Jews made up the largest minority (about 5–10 percent). The residents of Vadu Izei are now almost exclusively Romanians; a few describe themselves as Hungarians , Roma and Ukrainians . The same applies to Valea Stejarului, which was incorporated in 1843.

Vadu Izei is located on the national road ( drum național ) DN 18, which leads from Baia Mare to Iacobeni . The district road ( drum județean ) DJ 186 branches off in the village and leads into the valley of the Iza. Vadu Izei has good bus connections to Sighetu Marmației. The nearest train station is about 7 km northwest of the town on the Sighetu Marmației – Ivano-Frankivsk railway line . A narrow-gauge railway that had passed through Vadu Izei since the end of the 19th century was shut down around 1970.
Attractions
Apart from the scenic location, the main tourist attraction is the wooden church of Valea Stejarului.
