Desești [ ˈdeseʃtʲ ] ( Hungarian Desze ) is a municipality in Maramureș County in northern Romania .
Geographical location
The Deseşti municipality is located north of the Gutâi Mountains in the north of the Maramureş district. The nature reserve Rezervația Creasta Cocoșului (Hahnenkamm) belongs administratively to the municipality of Desești.
Along the river Mara and the national road DN18 , the place Deseşti lies 42 kilometers northeast of the district capital Baia Mare and 24 km south of Sighetu Marmației , the capital of the historical county Máramaros . In the south of the municipality the national road runs over the 987 m Gutâi pass . ⊙
history
Deseşti was first mentioned on March 20, 1360 under the Hungarian name Deszehaza in a document from the Hungarian King Ludwig I , in which he confirmed the ownership of the villages in the Mara Valley .
Until 1920, the community belonged to Hungary or the Principality of Transylvania , until it was given to Romania by the Treaty of Trianon .
Attractions
- The wooden church Cuvioasa Paraschiva , which was built in 1770, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with seven other churches in the district since 1999 . Mainly due to the special quality of the production, also due to Gothic influences, it is one of the most beautiful churches in the country. It is home to paintings from 1780 in the Neo- Byzantine style and antique furniture.
- On the area of the incorporated village of Mara, the 50-hectare nature reserve Creasta Cocoșului (Hahnenkamm) , with a variety of different plant and animal species, was declared a nature reserve in 2000.
