Rona de Sus ( German Oberrohnen , Hungarian Felsőróna , Ukrainian Вишня Рівня Wyschnja Riwnja ) is a municipality in the Maramureș district in Romania .
location
The municipality is located in the mountains near the Ukrainian border. The town of Sighetu Marmației is about 16 km to the west.
traffic
The national road ( drum național ) DN 18, which connects Sighetu Marmației with Moisei , runs through the village .
Infrastructure
There are five kindergartens and two schools.
population
Mainly Ukrainians live in the community . In the 2002 census, 4,062 of the 4,698 inhabitants at the time claimed to be Ukrainian, 201 to Romanian , 421 to Hungarian and five to German nationality.
Attractions
In the village there is a statue of St. Johannes Nepomuk and the Orthodox Monastery of the Assumption.
history
The first written mention of the place took place around 1360 in a document of King Louis I of Hungary, where it was listed under the name Felsew ówna . A salt mine was operated in open-cast mining from the 14th century. It was closed in 1934 because the deposits were exhausted.
