The Alps Käsespezialitäten GmbH based in Pfaffing , Bavaria , is a German, internationally active dairy company . The company processes around 80 million kg of milk per year.

history

The company was founded by Mathias Hain in 1905 with the acquisition of a property in Lehen near Pfaffing. This is where the production of "brick cheese", a kind of Limburger, began . In 1925, after the completion of a new dairy building, new dairy machines were purchased, which enabled the uniform production of Camembert .

In 1933 the company was taken over by Gottfried Hain senior and his wife Leni (née Blattenberger). In 1938/39, Alpenhain was regarded as a model dairy farm. With the development of a packaging machine, which was also requested by other cheese factories, Gottfried Hain senior laid the foundation stone for the Alpma machine factory in 1947.

In 1970, a process for preserving Camembert was developed that made it possible to export it unrefrigerated.

In the years 1983–1990 a specialty cheese dairy with modern cheese-making technology and a deep-freeze warehouse were built to produce cheese products as chilled and frozen products. These and a production area established in 2000 form the basis for the cheese convenience products segment .

Since 1980 Alpenhain baked Camembert produces and claims to be market leader in Germany in baked cheese and Obatzten , in 1994 for the first time without the use of preservatives has been industrially manufactured and brought to market.

In 2003 the management switched to the fourth generation of the family. Barbara von Hagmann and Christian Hain formed the company's management. In 2016, Stefan Kost and Klaus Nannt took over the management. Barbara von Hagmann and Christian Hain switch to the company's advisory board. After Klaus Nannt left the company, since 2018 the company has had a dual leadership with Stefan Kost as commercial director and Robert Winkelmann as director for sales, marketing and production.
