The Alpine Sun ( Italian Sole delle Alpi ) is a round ornament , which consists of six "petals", which are constructed similar to the central rosette of the Flower of Life , surrounded by a ring that touches the tips of the petals and about as thick as the petals is. Since the mid-1990s, a green-colored version has served as a political symbol for northern Italian regionalists and separatists , who see Padania as an independent political entity in northern Italy . The symbol is a registered trademark ofEditoriale Nord Soc. Coop., ARL, Varese , publisher of the daily newspaper “ La Padania ”, the Lega Nord's party newspaper, which was discontinued on December 1, 2014 . The symbol is based on the model of ornaments that can be found on house walls in the northern Italian Alpine region.
