Alphonse Maille

Alphonse Maille (* 1813 in Rouen ; † September 30, 1865 in Paris ) was a French botanist. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Maille ".

Life

Maille came from a respected family in Rouen and studied law. In addition, he dealt with botany and was a student of Adrien de Jussieu in Paris . His significant herbarium was cataloged by Jean-Louis Kralik after his death before it was split up and sold to other collectors (as Reliquiae Mailleanae ). Maille himself hardly published. Maille collected not only in France but also in Syria.

In 1854 he was a founding member of the French Botanical Society .

The genus of sweet grass Maillea is named in his honor (today a synonym of the genus Phleum ).
