Alphonse de Kalbermatten (born April 25, 1870 in Sion ; † February 23, 1960 there , entitled to live in Sion) was a Swiss architect .

Life

Alphonse de Kalbermatten was born on April 25, 1870 in Sion as the son of the architect Joseph de Kalbermatten. After completing a degree in architecture at the Eidgenössisches Polytechnikum Zürich and a subsequent internship in Munich , Alphonse de Kalbermatten initially stayed in Italy for a short time.

In 1894 Kalbermatten began a fruitful collaboration with his father, whose historicizing eclecticism he pursued. Around 1930 he finally turned to modern architecture . Alphonse de Kalbermatten was significantly involved in numerous conversions and reconstructions, as well as renovations, including the castle and church of Valeria with Théophile van Muyden in 1897 , and buildings created in collaboration with other architects.

In addition, he acted as a co-founder in 1929 and as the first president of the Valais section of the Swiss Association of Engineers and Architects (SIA) until 1931 . From 1935 to 1937 he was central president of the SAC section Monte Rosa.

Alphonse de Kalbermatten married Fanny nee de Riedmatten in 1900. He died on February 23, 1960, two months before his 90th birthday in Sion.
