The Alsancak Stadı was a football stadium that was located in the Turkish city of Izmir in the Alsancak district of the same name. It was originally the home stadium of Altay Izmir , but over the years several well-known Izmir clubs such as Altınordu Izmir , Göztepe Izmir , Izmirspor and Karşıyaka SK have played in the stadium.
history
The square on which the stadium stood was used as early as 1910 to host games, at that time by a Greek team called Panionios . After the Turkish war of liberation Panionios had to vacate his place, in 1929 the first grandstands (one covered and one uncovered grandstand) were built and the stadium was renamed to its current name. The stadium received its last shape in 1971 based on a design by the architect Harbi Hotan .
capacity
The stadium housed only seats, but most fans used it to stand. There was no north or south grandstand, nor was there a VIP area. The playing area consisted of natural grass .
demolition
The now dilapidated stadium was renovated in 2013, on August 6, 2014 it was tested against earthquakes , it was found that in the event of an earthquake the stadium might not be able to withstand the earthquake and would therefore pose a danger to people. According to this forecast, the stadium was closed on August 20, 2014. The stadium was finally demolished at the end of August 2015.
