The four-part, standard-gauge electric multiple unit type X3 is used by the Swedish company Arlanda Express for direct traffic between Stockholm C and Stockholm / Arlanda Airport .

history

Seven of these air-conditioned trains were built by Alstom in Birmingham and delivered in 1998/99. The X3 belongs to the upper group of Coradia railcars and can reach speeds of up to 205 km / h. The trains are painted gray and yellow. The railcars use the same electricity system as is found in the entire Swedish railway network.

In Arlanda and in Stockholm Central Station on platforms 1 and 2, the trains have separate platforms. There is a direct, stepless transition from the train to the platform. Each car has two doors and there are luggage racks on each door. The entire train has 190 seats. In one of the cars there are separate spaces for wheelchair users and a toilet.

In 2003 and 2004 the bow tips were renewed to simplify the coupling of the individual units. In 2006 the trains were renovated inside, equipped with new seats and painted in different color schemes. From 2010 a new modernization took place, in which more seats were installed. During the work in the EuroMaint workshop in Malmö , the exterior paintwork was also changed from gray to white.
