Alt-St. Nicholas
Alt-St.-Nikolaus is a former parish church in the Bonn district of Kessenich . The church is located on the corner of Nikolausstrasse and Rosenburgweg. It stands as a monument under monument protection .
history
It is a three-aisled church building with a square tower on the west side, which goes back to a hall building from the middle of the 11th century. The exact age of the central nave is unknown, the left aisle was built around 1590, the right aisle dates from 1749/1750. In the right aisle there is a baptismal font made from Drachenfels trachyte from 1573.
Between the years 1856 and 1860 the Ibach company from Barmen built an organ for the old Nikolauskirche with a manual (Bordun 16 ', Principal 8', Rohrflöte 8 ', Viola di Gamba 8', Octave 4 ', Quinte 2 2/3 ', Octave 2') and pedal (subbass 16 'and violonbass 8'). The whereabouts of the instrument is unclear. In 1891 an organ was ordered for the new parish church.
After the completion of the new parish church in 1891, Alt-St. Nicholas closed. Extensive renovation work took place in 1935/1936 and between 1965 and 1970. Since then, the church has been used again for masses and church celebrations. A special feature are the Latin masses with Gregorian chant in forma extraordinaria of the Roman rite.
