Alta Moda was a Canadian funk / rock band from the 1980s . It consisted of singer Molly Johnson , guitarist Norman Orenstein, drummer Steven Gelineau and bassist Etric Lyons.

history

The band was formed in 1979 in Toronto , Ontario by singer Molly Johnson and guitarist Norman Orenstein. In 1982, drummer Steven Gelineau joined the band in 1983, bassist Etric Lyons.

The band got a recording deal with CBS Records and released their debut album in 1987. It contains the single Julian . Radio stations criticized the song for the song's American funk influence. According to the radio stations, they sounded too black. The song reached number 53 on the Canadian charts in the week ending January 30, 1988.

In mid-1988 the band was fired from their record label. The band received a Juno Award nomination in the Juno Award for R & B / Soul Recording of the Year category that same year .

The band often performed live while looking for a new record deal. However, the band later broke up and Orenstein and Johnson subsequently became members of the band Big Sugar .
