Altair Nanotechnologies , or "AltairNano" for short, is a research company in the US state of Nevada that is engaged in the development of nanotechnology for energy storage and medical technology. The company's most important product is the “NanoSafe” lithium titanate battery . The shares were traded on the US stock exchange Nasdaq with the ticker "ALTI". There was a delisting in September 2014 . Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google , and other investors are involved in the company. The US Navy is interested in the NanoSafe batteries as an emergency power generator in ships. However, the commercial breakthrough in the lithium titanate battery segment as of 2016 did not succeed.

In lithium titanate batteries, the conventional graphite electrode is replaced by one made of lithium titanium spinel . Advantageous properties are the fast charging properties and the temperature independence over an application range of −40 ° C to +55 ° C. The disadvantage is the high price and the lower energy density compared to lithium-ion batteries . The company holds several patents in the field of lithium titanate batteries.
