The Old Bunzlau Castle (Kastellaneiburg Boleslavecz) was first mentioned in 1202, possibly under a different name as early as 1155. The castle was the main castle of the Gaus der Boborane ( Boboranengau ).

Under Casimir the Great , the castle was built on a polygonal ground plan in the Gothic style in the 14th century . In the second half of the 14th century the castle was a fief of Wladislaus II. During the Thirty Years' War the castle was completely destroyed. The remains of the castle disappeared when the Protestant church was rebuilt (today: kościół pw. Matki Boskiej Nieustającej Pomocy).

Building

The castle was surrounded by water on three sides, on the south corner of the city and was included in the city fortifications . The castle was located between the Stadtzwinger zum Nikolaitor and the Stadtzwinger zum Niedertor. The layout of the castle is documented on a site plan from 1744.
