The old village church (formerly St. Pankratius) is the former Roman Catholic parish church of Cologne-Junkersdorf , which has lost its sacred purpose since the construction of a larger parish church in 1908.

history

The village church of Junkersdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1223, when the church appears as the property of the St. Gereon monastery in Cologne . A document from Archbishop Heinrich II. From 1324 confirmed the incorporation of the parish church into the Gereonsstift. In 1676 the interior of the church suffered severe damage from a fire, in 1754 the building itself burned down except for the choir . The nave was renewed in the following years. In the middle of the 19th century, two aisles were added. When Junkersdorf's population increased sharply around 1900, the decision was made to build a new neo-Gothic church, but not to demolish the old sacred building. 1908, transferred the old during the consecration of the new building Pancras - patronage . The neo-Gothic church finally had to give way to a new building in 1960 after severe war damage. The old village church was converted into a kindergarten in 1957. The oldest part of the building, the polygonal closed choir, was given a spiritual purpose again in 1987 when it was converted into a small chapel.
