Tuchschererturm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tuchschererturm was a defense tower in the second city wall of medieval Munich .

history

The tower was first mentioned in 1613, but its exact location is not mentioned. This tower is likely to have been one of the city wall towers between the Angertor and the inlet gate , as in this section the cloth shears had leased the kennel in front of the second city wall in order to set up their cloth makers' frames. These frames are clearly visible in the city model of Munich by Jakob Sandtner from 1570. In the city map of Munich of the topographical bureau from 1806, they are mainly between the Taschenturm and Jakobsplatz. The tower is likely to have stood on today's Prälat-Zistl-Straße between Sebastiansplatz and Jakobsplatz south of the tower near Sankt Sebastian , roughly where the southern head end of the Schrannenhalle is today.

In 1803 the tower is mentioned again as a tower in the cloth makers' kennel. It is not known when it was demolished.
