The old fire station at Adlerstrasse 6 in Esslingen am Neckar is a former fire station .

history

The combination of fire station and business school was built in 1912/13 according to plans by the city councilor Gustav Blümer . It was intended as the structural end of the gravel road, which had been laid out in the 19th century, and represented a link between gravel and canal roads. In the 1970s, however, the row of buildings opposite was demolished, so that the overall effect changed significantly.

The structure of the building consists largely of reinforced concrete, the structure was built massive. While the window front is kept rather simple, elements such as the volute gable and the corner blocks point to late historical influences. The main entrance has a sculptured wall . The building is adorned with a sculpture of St. Florian by Albert Gäckle on a corner of the building facing the gravel street and with the heads of firefighters in the gable fields. On the volute gable, a sailing ship created by Carl Frey can be seen as a symbol of the trading school once housed here.

The corner building of the old fire station has a cellar and contained the equipment room for the alarm clock line, a caretaker's apartment, administrative and ancillary rooms. In the long building there was the equipment room for the volunteer fire brigade on the first floor, the business school on the upper floor and a fire brigade training room on the first floor. The exits for the fire engines were directed towards the gravel road. They originally had round arches and double-leaf wooden doors. However, these were replaced by a more modern solution in the 1950s. The main entrance to the building is on Adlerstrasse. It leads to a central staircase that is housed in the Steigerturm . The hose drying room was connected to this.

The building was used as a fire station into the 21st century and has since been used for other purposes.
