Old Hut (Harzgerode)
The old hut was a mining facility between Alexisbad and Mägdesprung in the Harz Mountains . It was not far from the Selke . The operation of this ironworks was stopped in favor of the Neue Hütte, which had been in operation at least since 1563 . As early as 1608, "but nothing more was to be seen than the old brickwork, sambt the fallen moat". Presumably this old hut is identical to the ironworks where large amounts of silver were smelted in 1539.
