Old comrades is the title of a military march ( Heeresmarsch II, 150).

The Marsch Alte Kameraden was composed by the military musician Carl Teike in Ulm around 1889 . Allegedly, the chief conductor said to his subordinate Teike after handing over the notes:

“We have enough marches. Throw it in the oven! "

The march was not burned, but became one of the most popular and most played German military marches. The march is also very popular abroad; even immediately after the Second World War , when the playing of German marches abroad largely ceased, it was still performed there often.

text

Old comrades on the march through the country
Close friendship as a rock solid and loyal.
Whether in need or in danger, (alternative: whether in combat or powder steam) they
always hold together on the new '.

The attack takes place in quick succession,
fame and honor should bring us victory,
Los, comrades, freshly loaded,
this is our march music.

In a maneuver the whole regiment moved to the
quarters to the next village, potzelement,
And at the innkeeper's flirting
with the girls and the innkeeper's little daughter.
Tralalalala ...

laughing joke, laughing joke, today is this
morning the whole regiment is who knows how far.
That, comrades, is the bitter lot of the warrior, so
take the glass and we shout "cheers".

Old wine gives youth strength (alternative: courage and strength);
Because it tastes the juice of the wine. (Alternatively: old women drink raspberry juice)
Are we old, the heart stays young
And the memory is powerful.

Whether in joy or in need,
let us remain faithful until death.
Drink up and pour
and let's be old comrades.

Are we old, the heart stays young,
indulging in memories.
Drink up and pour
and let's be old comrades.

Yeah, the team they pull out of the gate,
old comrades look out the window, goodbye
you beautiful city,
in which we enjoyed food and drink so much,
the team they pull out of the gate,
old comrades look ' n out the window,
farewell you beautiful city,
in which we liked it so much!
