The Alte Kelter is a listed timber-framed building in the for Ilsfelder district Auenstein counting village Helfenberg in the district of Heilbronn in northern Baden-Württemberg .

history

The building was built in 1819 as a tithe barn by the von Gaisberg family's “common aristocratic lordship” , north-west of today's parish hall, where the lower castle stood at that time . In 1820 a stately wine press was added to the building on the west side . In 1883 the community of Auenstein acquired the building in exchange for the former community press. The wine press extension from 1820 was then converted into a barn, while the tithe scrubbing area to the east now served as a wine press. In 1927 two Spahr presses with a wooden frame were exchanged for a hydraulic double press and a fruit mill. The building remained a wine press until after the Second World War, later it was used as a storage room.

The building could only be used to a limited extent, particularly because access to the gate was only possible via the neighboring property to the south; it fell into disrepair and demolition was discussed several times. In 2004 the municipality of Ilsfeld sold the building to two residents, and the property was divided into two parcels. From 2004 to 2006 extensive renovation measures took place in which the old half-timbered structure was retained as far as possible. The roof was renewed and a gate was broken through an area of the outer wall that was already badly damaged so that the building could be used as a stable there as planned. Furthermore, the floorboards were renewed and a staircase to the top floor was built in. The eastern part of the Alte Kelter on the street An der Kelter named after it is now a studio, the western part a horse shelter.

In the wine press there is a functioning fruit press from the 1920s. Next to the building is the Buch zur Kelter , a book made from laser-engraved stainless steel plates with a multi-page monument documentation by the owner, which contains contributions from Ilsfeld's mayor Thomas Knödler and the monument curator Angelika Reiff from the Stuttgart regional council.
